Order the SNUDEBILLER - Archives DVD (SNUDEBILLER 1/2000 – SNUDEBILLER 5/2004)

This first SNUDEBILLER-Archives DVD will be published in the end of 2005. It includes number one to five of the SNUDEBILLER, with about 1.500 text pages, more than 6.000 depictions and photographs and about 100 audio- and video-documentations. There are no changes or corrections of the original editions. Therefore this DVD replaces the separate editions of SNUDEBILLER 1 - 5 which are not distributed since 1st November 2005. Keeping the original pagination the quotation of the SNUDEBILLER-Archives DVD is the same as in the original editions!

But this DVD presents more options to the user than a simple addition ("reprint") of SNUDEBILLER 1 - 5! Digital publications are endowed with three important qualities, which have some significance for the development of science itself and which go far beyond the possibilities of the print-media: 1. More publications about a certain taxon or problem are possible in a shorter period of time (for instance revisions can be updated at regular intervalls). 2. There is much more information published on the same subject (only ten years ago there where two to three hand-drawings whereas today there is 10 to 20 times more scientific illustration on e. g. a species which is presented with its complete range of morphological variation, habitats, host plants,...). 3. There is a rapid scientific process of extensive discussion and learning by "try and error" through which falsificating facts and new knowledge have a direct influence on the progress of hypotheses and theories and again more or less - ad infinitum - beeing a topic under discussion by "words and pictures".

There is a change from unique "historical publications" sometimes enduring generations of entomologists (e. g. the last extensive revision of the Westpalearctic species of the genus Acalles by the Solari-brothers was published in 1907) to an extremly dynamic and modern "age of worldwide scientific communication" which requires a quicker access to information. Digital catalogues and indeces become unrenouncable instruments of a useful documentation of the enormous amount of information gathered by team working scientists during the last decades. An intelligent processing of current and historical information is a necessary precondition for the successful work of entomologists in future.

First of all we established a search-command-system to present every species in the special context the respective author published it. We are convinced that searching for a first description, a redescription, a current determination key or for biological and ecological charakteristics of a species will be a child's play to you. There are cross references given to all valid names and synonyms. Struggeling for a doubtless identification of your material you will immediately have access to the respective key, distribution map and precise information about every single locality in the DET-Index. In the Authors-Index you can directly find a list of the entire work of an author in chronological order. Last but not least we added the option of a quick and easy installation on your home computer, that turns the SNUDEBILLER-Archives DVD into your personal SNUDEBILLER-library: And you can add every new edition of SNUDEBILLER (starting with edition 6/2005) to this archives without problems!
