Information about membership in the Curculio Institute (CURCI)

1) Access to the homepage www.curci.de
After becoming a member of the Curculio Institute you will receive a password that enables you to login to the member’s area of www.curci.de. There you will have access to all publications of the Curculio Institute. The Weevil News articles and the archived SNUDEBILLER contributions are mainly ‘open source‘ publications; but the modern pictorial keys that were produced with a high degree of personal and organisational effort are exclusively linked to the member’s area.

In the section SNUDEBILLER PICTURES as a member you can make your own photos available. If you want to use any of the images for your own work, we ask you to take note of the information provided there.

In the section ’Le Charançon’ on www.curci.de you will find several catalogues with high-quality habitus and often aedeagus photos of weevils, which are constantly increasing. Using the practical search function of the website you can quickly find the wanted species and related articles or photos. Please make full use of this facility. Search functions are on the start page and in most catalogues.

Further worthwhile advantages, with exclusive access to CURCI members, like a digital library, is currently being worked on.

2) Members personal details
On our homepage www.curci.de you will find in the sections ’The Institute’ and ’Entomologists’ a list of all members. There is the option to create your own page containing information about yourself and your projects. For this purpose we have established different sections, and we invite you to complete these with your personal content. The member page enhances the visibility of your work and interests and offers a valuable platform for the exchange with like-minded persons and to explore common activities or to ask experts for assistance. Relevant details you should consider adding are: name, contact information, photo, fields of activity, main interests, current projects and especially the list of publications.

If you want to create a personal member page, please take into account the following hints:

After your successful „Login“ (right above) – you need only your email address and your password - ’Login’ is replaced by your name. If you click on your name, a further page opens with your name and the fields ‘Edit your profile’, ‘Change your password’, ‘Administration’ and ‘Logout’. Then please turn to ‘Edit your profile‘ and enter all intended information. When done, it is necessary to click on ‘Save’. If you want to finish the session and leave the website, please go to ‘Logout’.

3) CURCI Newsletter
The monthly CURCI Newsletter will inform you about the activities of the Curculio Institute and about current publications in the Weevil News. This way you will receive an invitation to the annual meeting, common excursions and other items. For our members there is the offer, to highlight new publications referring to weevils in external periodicals via CURCI Newsletter; please provide us with appropriate information (citations, web links, DOI, PDF and others). An association relies on the active participation of its members; if you want to get involved in the CURCI activities, please do not hesitate, to contact us!

4) To publish in the Weevil News
The current publication organ of CURCI is Weevil News (ISSN 1615-3472). Here you can publish scientific articles about weevils, like excursion reports, studies, contributions on biology and ecology of the species (life-cycle, life history, habitat and host plant information), as well as contributions on distribution, threats as well as first descriptions of species. Authors should follow currently published articles (e.g., Suikat & Alekseev 2020) concerning the structure and arrangement of articles. All articles are subject to a review process.
Finally, your well-illustrated articles will be formally prepared and uploaded on the homepage www.curci.de by Klara Krämer-Klement (Weevil News Editorial). They can be downloaded by everyone in the section Weevil News as ‘open source’ in the PDF format.
The mode of publication is usually bimonthly; or even monthly if there are sufficient articles available for publication. New articles will always be published on the first day of a month. It is expressly notified that you do not have to be a member of the Curculio Institute if you want to publish an article in the Weevil News.

Please send manuscripts for publishing in the Weevil News digitally to: psprickcol@t-online.de (Dr. Peter Sprick, editor). For large sized articles (i.e., with pictures amounting to more than 15 MB) please send using data portals such as Wetransfer.com, Úschovna.cz, dropbox.com, etc.

For further information on author guidelines, long-term preservation and print version see under Weevil News Info.
